Reflections
Just Thursday I get an IM from a person who I started building a friendship with, but after learning a little bit about their character quickly stopped seeing them primarily because they would ask me to hang out when I had a club of some sort, but also because I just wasn’t in the mood for the kind of behavior I encountered that evening.
I get an IM and see who it is from the window and don’t think twice before I continued working on my paper. “Hey man, check out my face book wall” he said, with a smile I could see within my imagination sliding across his face. Without responding I go to his page, look at the top two comments, the first one my eyes stopped upon being, “hey man! I heard you got laid this week! Congratulations on getting some.” The next from the supposed partner, “Looks like you know how to show a girl a good time, let’s catch another flight sometime.” It’s all I had to see really and I knew it was coming; this, after all, was the same kid that joyously announced that he was able to lose his virginity after asking a freshman girl if she wanted to have casual sex. Of course, we made him think twice about it after pointing out the STD ratio on campus, which happens to be a pleasant 1/6 females.
I didn’t respond to the badgering “did you see its,” as if it were some accomplishment or trophy to be cherished. A recent article was published within the newspaper about casual sex, citing that a good chunk of the college populous has had about 20-30 partners (for males) and 10-15 (for females). While I try to tell myself I don’t have a problem with people going around and doing the horizontal slide, I sort of do, especially if a person I eventually fell in love with had an excess of 5+ partners before myself. I myself am chaste and do not know why. Sometimes I feel as if a bit of the bump and grind would do me good and I may in fact come off as if I do partake in those sorts of things, but it all ends up being some sort of false bravado put on to conform to what appears to be the norm our generation.
After creative writing club I get into a good conversation with a few people and the club president remarks, “Wow, today’s meeting was going kind of slow, but there was nothing I could really do to prolong it either, no one was really talkative.” I thought it out for a second and said, “well, I’m sure once things get rolling and people get to know each other discussions will begin to come and go more naturally.” Her face lit up and she said, “Oh yeah, definitely, by the end of the semester we’ll be partying it up on Thursday and Friday nights, getting so drunk.” Drinking’s almost an inclusive thing that I can’t be a part of – and not drinking in the sense of actually having a drink, but in the sense of losing yourself. I really don’t care for it but I can’t stop my own judgments about it from deliberating what I do and how I react. I just sort of did my usual fake chuckle in response, but it always strikes me how proud people can be about their sexual or social conduct, even monkeys in suits.
Anyway, new subject. I’ve recently joined a group led by a set of twins called World of Pwnage (www.worldofpwnage.com). Yeah, you guessed it, I’ve gotten into my old gaming habits and in the most competitive sense. The two brothers are high up in the business world, making a good amount of money and want to invest some time and money into developing this community for gamers and life in general. I plan on the competitive team and so far we’ve had a successful season. We’ve won our first two matches 30-0, 29-1 and have our third this Monday. I was able to get us sponsored by Fraggerock which means a free private server. Currently we are working on getting sponsored by a soft-drink company called Bawls which is known for its gaming beverages. Another sponsor we’re meeting with to discuss a contract with is Razer, a computer technology company. If we’re able to get sponsored by both of those companies it means free drinks, free computer parts, and depending on how well we perform, free plane tickets/gas money/hotel rooms for tournaments. I can’t really see us getting our hotel rooms paid for yet, but I could see some free goodies headed our way.
I’m more or less the team strategist and scout. I research information regarding our opponents, their history, and the ability of their players while developing strategies and managing the team when it comes to how we play on a map. Over the last two weeks I’ve probably typed up about 20-30 pages regarding team policy, tactics, and what amounts to a mission statement. What I find amusing is that even though I put in a good amount of time towards coordinating all of this stuff and developing a sense of credibility, many people will still look at it as a waste of time and just a silly little game that children play.
Believe me when I say a lot of drama occurs and it isn’t about just sitting back and playing a game.
You also develop a bond (yes, I know you’re laughing at me as you’re reading this) with the people you play with. You get to know them, their families, what they do for a living and how they spend their free time. My team consists of a 14 year old freshmen in high school who received a D in French, a 2nd generation 21 year old who lives in Syracuse NY but who’s family is originally from Pakistan, a 19 year old husband with two kids who is currently apart of the air-force, stationed in Georgia as an officer and of course, the two successful twins who currently are climbing the ladder at the corporation they work at, one of which is making excess of a hundred thousand a year. We all called bullshit, but when he took a picture of his dissertation and tax return, it was somewhat of a surprise.
People probably roll their eyes when I talk about how much I love the social interaction and planning that goes into a successful match, but I really do. It’s a fun hobby and I get to know some really interesting people. I’ve actually met people who I’ve played with online, which is an incredibly hilarious experience. Supposedly, once we can coordinate ourselves, a lot of us on the penny-arcade debate/politics section of the forums are going to try to get together in New York City, which should be extremely fun. Hopefully this summer. Right now some of the people from my team want me to attend a 500 man LAN in Mass, but I’m not sure if I have the money or time for it at the moment.
But yeah, I’ll update more as things become relevant.

Yay finally updated woot! lol. but ahh i remember that story now about him.ahh stupid people. There are alot of people from UCONN here, alot of drunk stupid bitches, sigh. there are alot of stupid americans that go abroad its amazing how stupid they are. Some of the things ive heard them say are hilarious.
But ah sex isnt really like the biggest deal in the world, ya have it or ya dont have it, it doesnt really make a difference, shouldnt really matter and no one should be proud of havin sex with 8 random women in a weekend. Same thing about drunk people, I sit here in the computer room and listen (luckily i have my headphones now so i dont have to anymore) but they come in and talk about how piss ass drunk they got the night before and how they passed out at 3am. My roommates sometimes drink a whole fucking bottle of wine in like 20 minutes and then have some more beer. and then go out and do more shit. jeesus im thinkin wat the hell.
Thats sweet that your getting into it again, you really liked playin it and gettin involved with 8ball and stuff when we all played before. I would like to play its just sometimes i dont think i have the time or i dont think i would have enough time to play everynight.
but bawls eh? my friend at school is from penn. and i think that is where they are based so she is like all gun ho about them and how awake they make you lol. But if you actually got them to fully sponser you that would be awsome, and something like that is just great to be apart of.
You always were the strategist lol.
Hopefully over the summer ill be able to get back into it.
Anyways, i am about on page 500 or something in Tigana. Really Good book by the way you were right. I started it about a week 1/2 ago and have been reading it everynight for at least a half hour before i sleep. I read the prologue and i was interested and then the first chapter made me go WTF? lol and then i read the 2nd and i was like oh okay. And since then i cant stop reading it. After i finish it brian, my roommate has Eragon and the sequal to that so ill prolly read those. But very good book i must say.
But i must depart now i shall talk to you hopefully soon but you bastardo are never on!!!
