Sunday Fires

"hehehehahahahahahaha so when do we get to begin?"
"Have patience for once in your life."
"You're no fun, big sis. If he was here we would have already started." His pupils shrunk, the whites of his eyes growing. He began to laugh wildly, but as frightening as it sounded, he was holding himself back.
She coldly looked over to the figdeting, pale white man standing next to her, clad in the most up to date elliptical technology. Tubes weaved in and out of his metallic body, constantly pumping the energy necessary to run the suit's abilities. He was arched forward, with his left foot tapping the dirt with it's toe.
"Vertigo, you should know the difference between he and I. Never associate me with that monster." She said it flatly with a tone that demanded silence fill the air about them.
"Ho? Yet you work for the same man and are associated with the same atrocities..." he began to laugh a little at this point, but he sharply turned his head to face her with a stone faced frown. "Don't kid yourself. Do you actually think you're independent from..." Noise could be heard from the town, down below the hill from which they were standing on.
"I See him! Hahahahaha! He's mine big sis, you'll be proud of how deadly i've gotten with my new toy." Vertigo passionately rode his tongue down his left arm and whispered something affectionately to it before dashing down the hill at an inhuman speed.
Dyne watched a cloud of wind kick up, forcing her hair everywhich way due to Vertigo's speed. Calmly, she pushed the stray strands of hair behind her ear, looked indifferently upon the landscape and turned her back to the massacre that was about to begin. "This is the price for peace. Soon there won't be a need for demons like you, Vertigo." Dyne gracefully began to walk into the darkness of the forest, stopped to look back, and after a sigh let the enveloping blackness consume her.

Ripping through the town like lightening, Vertigo happily danced amongst the flames which exuded from his hands and feet at will. The elliptical armor merely enhanced a users pre existing abilities, so much of the speed and acrobatics were a demonstration of his abilities as a Fire Dancer.
Vertigo howled with madness as he quickly jumped over obstacles and with the agility of a gymnast, quickly vaulted off of anything he could find, burning it with his touch. The streets were in chaos as everything burned around him. Families attempted to escape the violence, but quickly found themselves either ignited in their attempt to flee or watched as a roof that once provided shelter quickly become their death.

"hohohohehehehahaha! Screams! I love it! Louder! Louder! LOUDER!" A trail of fire blazed beneath his feat as he stopped to bask in the glory of his masterpiece. "What ungrateful fools! None of you understand." He cocked his head to the left and saw a child crying in the corner, begging for his mother's touch and safety. With a smile stretched across his face and chin up, Vertigo casually approached the child and with each step, his eyes grew wider. "I know you're here! Why don't you come out and play already? Or do I need to find something to keep myself occupied until you finally muster up enough courage?" Vertigo stopped in front of the child, lavishing in the terror that filled the air. He grasped the childs arm and lifted him up off the ground and the smell of burning flesh dominated the area. Slowly and meticulously, Vertigo began to singe the child's arm with his touch and watched as the boy struggled and screamed in pain.

"If you don't want to die, I humbly suggest putting the kid down. Now." Vertigo looked back over his shoulder in amusement. "So you've come." He dropped the child and turned around to face the stranger. "Ahh! How cocky for such a young brat. To think that your father was once one of the highest and most decorated amongst our ranks." Vertigo made an insincere bow to the dark stranger and without standing back up raised his head, "such wasted talent."

"Hah. Don't speak as if you knew him," said the youth. Vertigo's flames began to brew along his suit as he began to laugh, "I could say the same to you, naive boy!"
"Enough talk, shut your mouth and let's get this done with."

With a great amount of passion, Vertigo sped towards the young man wearing nothing but a black mantle. With a heavy fist he made the first move, but wasn't fast enough. Somehow the youth evaded his strike. With deep resentment and anger, Vertigo turned to lay a barrage of blows upon the face of his enemy, but each was easily evaded.

"Too slow."

After receiving the carefully timed strike to his chest, Vertigo was thrown through three of his master pieces, the last one collapsing on him. After a few moments of silence, a pillar of fire erupted from underneath the rubble, Vertigo shrouded in blood lust.

"Looks like it was all true. You live up to your father's legacy, Saudade, but I'm going to have to finish this game we're playing." Ripping open a panel in his left arm, the fire dancer grabbed the vial resting within the suit. He drank the contents and immediately began to tremble with vitality. With speed incapable of being seen by the naked eye, Vertigo quickly encircled the youth within a towering circle of flame. With swift kicks and thrusts of his arms, hooked flames danced towards Saudade, leaving black ash in their wake. "The world is going to be better off without you and your ilk." Without saying a word, the oncoming flames were distinguished and Vertigo was shocked to find his arms and legs thrown in different directions, separated from the rest of his body. He fell to the ground, no longer dancing, and instead crying in pain.

"You...You son of a bitch." The limbless mess of a man began to cough up pools of blood.
"You have a lot to say for a dead man."
"It won't matter. For every one you kill, ten will follow and hunt you down till the end of time. We'll erase everything you love until you..." Before he could finish the sentence, Saudade crushed his throat with his bare hands, "I am not as merciful as my father. You've already taken everything I love which is why I'll repay the generosity ten fold." After watching Vertigo's vain struggle for survival, Saudade of Sunday took in the tragedy of what had occured about him and to those who housed him. Tears rolled down his blank face as he began to walk away from the burning town, thinking of the love he lost so many years ago.

Just practicing some dialogue/fight scene stuff. None of it is edited, so it is crappy, but hopefully the more I do it the better i'll get and maybe I'll finally be able to settle on a set of characters/plot for the book some class next semester requires me to write.

Meh, I suck at writing fantasy lol ;_;

I find it amusing because ninjas are awesome and it's like kicking hallmark in the face.

Niggah Please.

ROFL, "I put the H on it to emphasize it's niggAHHHHHHH"

Gotta love the news though. Hmm...a racial story, eh? Black woman covering the story? Check. Black student being a honor student, boy scout, Jesus Christ re-incarnated? Check. Why the white teacher is the devil himself...later on the news, at 11? Check.

What bothers me is the fact that the first half of the exchange between the teacher and student isn't mentioned at all.

This is totally a hypothesis, but I've had teachers before that were entirely clueless, and because of this, even the honor students would push their buttons just because they could. The most recent case of this was my computer technology teacher. He was a decent person but annoying, really eccentric, and completely oblivious to just about everything, so the kids gave him shit constantly.

And it should be noted that 9 out of 10 times when a situation like this comes up in a classroom, the other students will side with the kid and rally against the teacher, regardless of the circumstances. The kid could have pulled a knife on the teacher, and in most cases the kids would give a testimony that protected the kid and made the teacher look guilty. That's just how it works - especially since the kid is an honor roll student, a football player, and is probably quite popular.

They said the kid was at the door when this happened, so I would venture a guess that the kid got up from his seat without asking, and when the teacher asked him what he was doing, the kid probably smarted off and said something along the lines of "I'm going to the bathroom, nigga" and the teacher responded without thinking.

Do I think the teacher was wrong for using that word? Absolutely, and I think he should have been reprimanded in some way due to his inability to handle the situation appropriately, but I guarantee there's more to this story than we're being told. Also, the entire report built the kid up to be pristine and innocent (having him hold up his trophies for the camera and shit) and it is without a doubt biased reporting. We were meant to hate the teacher before we even saw his face because he used the N-word in relation to a black student.

The whole story is pretty much tainted.

Uh Huh....

What a fucked up region.

Tehran, Iran, Jan. 07 – An Iranian court has sentenced a teenage rape victim to death by hanging after she weepingly confessed that she had unintentionally killed a man who had tried to rape both her and her niece.

The state-run daily Etemaad reported on Saturday that 18-year-old Nazanin confessed to stabbing one of three men who had attacked the pair along with their boyfriends while they were spending some time in a park west of the Iranian capital in March 2005.

Nazanin, who was 17 years old at the time of the incident, said that after the three men started to throw stones at them, the two girls’ boyfriends quickly escaped on their motorbikes leaving the pair helpless.

She described how the three men pushed her and her 16-year-old niece Somayeh onto the ground and tried to rape them, and said that she took out a knife from her pocket and stabbed one of the men in the hand.

As the girls tried to escape, the men once again attacked them, and at this point, Nazanin said, she stabbed one of the men in the chest. The teenage girl, however, broke down in tears in court as she explained that she had no intention of killing the man but was merely defending herself and her younger niece from rape, the report said.

The court, however, issued on Tuesday a sentence for Nazanin to be hanged to death.

Last week, a court in the city of Rasht, northern Iran, sentenced Delara Darabi to death by hanging charged with murder when she was 17 years old. Darabi has denied the charges.

In August 2004, Iran’s Islamic penal system sentenced a 16-year-old girl, Atefeh Rajabi, to death after a sham trial, in which she was accused of committing “acts incompatible with chastity”.

The teenage victim had no access to a lawyer at any stage and efforts by her family to retain one were to no avail. Atefeh personally defended herself and told the religious judge that he should punish those who force women into adultery, not the victims. She was eventually hanged in public in the northern town of Neka.

People like to say it's not a violent religion but...jesus christ.

Snow Day

The family had decided that they would all chip in so that instead of taking two or three hours out of their day to plow the driveway, a stranger in a truck would come and do it instead, but that didn't last long. Because of his naroticism, dad decided to get started because he was worried about whether or not the plow was coming. He managed to plow the entire front of the driveway with his 1980's snow blower until it finally gave up and died. With a curse and a kick he made his way back to the house. After getting cleaned up and heading into the living room where the rest of us sat, he looked out the window.
"Hey, he's doing John's driveway."
I looked out and watched as a red ford F150 came with its equipment and quickly plowed our neighbor's driveway.
"Leigh, go get your brother and tell him that we need to get the cars out of the driveway so that he can plow it."
I walked over to the base of the stairs, opened the door and shouted up to my brother, "Dan! We've gotta move the cars! The plow is here, quickly!"
It was a couple of moments before I heard the thuds of footsteps along the cieling above me, a faster pace as he made it down the stairs, and with a grumble Dan began to put on his boots.

We walked outside and prepared to step into our cars, but the plow backed out of John's driveway and didn't stop at our house, but continued to drive down the street instead.
Dad threw his arms into the air as his face contorted into something ugly. "Oh, come on! What the hell is this shit!"
"Beats me, maybe he'll be back later," I said.
"Well, sorry for calling you boys down, just stay on your toes, he could be back later."

Dinner rolled around and it must have been snowing for a good eight hours. I went downstairs to the first floor apartment to get dinner which was prepared by my grandmother. Good ol Gram, still taking care of us in her old age. We made our way into the kitchen when my aunt asked us about the plow.
"Did you guys manage to get the driveway cleared off?"
My father was immediately irritated by the comment, maybe because the plow hadn't been here through out the entire storm, or maybe because it was my aunt. "No, it didn't come," he said shortly. "Just push the snow out of the way with your car if you need to get out."
"Are you kidding me? It's eight feet of snow out there...you wouldn't do that with your truck."
"You wanna bet? I could easily do that with my truck. Why don't you just get off your ass and try it?" I smiled inside of my head, because I knew it wasn't true. His truck was his baby, and baby's aren't tossed into puddles of water or thrown into snow banks.
At this point he lost control. He began to lecture her, which is a euphemistic way of putting it. "The fucking truck didn't come this afternoon, I don't know what's taking it so long, but how can you expect me to do all of this shit by myself? I took care of most of the driveway already, why don't you..." I began to poke him affectionatly. Usually when my father loses himself to the absurdity of his own mind, this sort of physical carnival usually gets him to laugh and calm down a bit, boy was I wrong.

Anger quickly consumed his thoughts and balled his hand into a fist. "Would you freakin stop it!?" He attempted to smash the prodding finger several times against the wind, pulled his arm back behind his head, held it for a second and relaxed the tension is his arm until it fell to his side through force. He walked away, leaving the dinner we were supposed to pick up.

I was upstairs working when my brother called, "Leigh! Dinner!" I sat for a few minutes, got up, and made my way downstairs. Everyone was up serving themselves the stuffed peppers that my grandmother had made, a family favorite. We sat down at the table and began to eat. An uncomfortable silence lingered at the table, but my mom managed to try and stir up some conversation.

"This is pretty good," she said, looking to each of us for some sort of answer. We nodded our heads. After more silence she spoke again, "I can't believe we missed that deal for the new treadmill. It was a bargain too, we shouldn't have waited to look at others, that one was on sale for a huge amount." She said it almost as if she was reprimanding a child for doing something wrong. I tried to cheer her up about it and said, "well, no worries, now we'll be able to find out what we really want and if that deal was good, another will probably come our way."

"No, we should have bought the treadmill. It was only 1500 dollars, originally 5000."
"From my experience, it's usually better to shop around and research any big expenses," my brother said in a supportive manner.
"If I don't walk, I'll die." She said it in a concrete tone, but you could still hear the fear. "If I don't walk at least every other day, I'm going to die. Your father is constantly on trips and its winter...i'm not going to walk without him. I need the machine now. If I don't get a treadmill I'm not going to be able to walk and control my weight and then i'm going to die because of diabetes. You tell me what I should do."
In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have said it, but I just wanted a cure for the disease. "They'll be clearing the snow soon, then you can go walking with the dogs." She sat and stared at the placemat in front of her, but the placemat wasn't what she saw, "that won't work."

After more silence and a few more bites of stuffed pepper, my father put in his two cents. "When the hell is the plow going to get here?"
"Well, they said they would be here to do our driveway."
"They haven't been here all day. How are we supposed to get out of the damn driveway," he said in frustration.
"Well, maybe if someone hadn't shoveled most of it and made the plow think we didn't need the service, he would have already been here."
"Why wouldn't he have come! It was a freakin blizzard!"
"You didn't sign the damn contract. What the hell do you expect?" Dad said a few things under his breath that would have made mary cry and he stomped out of the room. After a minute or two he came back, "Well we need to get the snow out of the front of the garage and your aunt's car."
My mom turned her eyes from dad and to us, "well, which one of you boys are going to help your father clear out some of the snow?" We kept our eyes down and didn't say anything. I kept my eyes focused on my food, as if it was one of the most complicated things on this planet. Studying it. Analyzing it. Anything to keep me out of it.

"So did I hear two people volunteer?" I got up, picked up a pair of pants and began to put them on. They were wet from an attempt to clear off the cars earlier. I looked at my shoes, "Hey dad, can you toss those into the dryer?"
"No, you're going to break it!" he shouted. "The hell are you thinking? If you put it into the dryer it's going to cause it to.."
"I don't want the physics of the dryer. If it's going to break the dryer, I won't do it."
He quickly responded, "Of course. It'll break the damn dryer and cost me a fortune to pay for repairs and you can bet it won't be me paying for it. Putting the shoes in the dryer would damage the interior by developing..."
My brother intervened loudly with irritability stirring in his tone of voice, "Dad, he said he didn't want to hear it. He said he'd take your word for it. Just stop it. Damn it!"

My brother and I walked out into the darkness and began to shovel. Not a word was said. Eventually my father made his way outside. Still no words. After the job was done, I made my way upstairs and tried to slip off my shoes. I tried to calmly get them off, but I became quickly frustrated and kicked my foot around madly, "get the fuck off of me, what the hell, freaking shit." I resigned to untieing them, slid my pants off and walked over to the table to sit down. My brother made his way to the top of the stairs.

"Hey Leigh...thanks."
"No problem."

Eventually it was time to go back. After much heated debate, my father decided to take his truck because of the poor weather and my mother's demands. He wanted to keep his car clean. She wanted me to be taken to school in a vehicle with four wheel drive.

We pulled out of the driveway and took a left towards the highway. He started off saying each word like a normal person, but it quickly turned into something faster and angrier. "Why do I need to take my car? Huh? Why couldn't we take your car or the rental car? This is bullshit, why do I always..."
"Wow. Fascinating story, but if you could save it for another time I'd really appreciate it." My patience was wearing thin.
We took the on ramp and he jokingly said with a chuckle, "see!, snow isn't the problem, it's once you get on the highway that problems start coming up. It gets more wet and slushy and that's how the car gets dirty." There was a period of silence. I kept starting into something beyond the road. I couldn't make it out, but it was dark with a streak of light here and there. And then again.

"I don't understand it!" He said it with a hand thrown in the air, the other struggling to stay on the wheel instead of joining its twin in coordination. "Why the hell do you and your mother have to be so stubborn! What difference does it fucking make if we take another car or my car?" My face smiled and I rested my head on my arm and continued to stare at the darkness. "I'm not being stubborn." I said it, the smile spread physically across my face, my head shaking left to right mechanically. It was a routine. "It's just bullshit, you guys don't get it. All I want is to keep my car clean, but who the fuck cares! I'll just let it stay dirty for the week and clean it when I get back. Fuck it. Was it necesary?"

I was staring into the darkness, thinking about nothing in particular until that streak came across my eyes. The light played across that field of black, constantly interrupting my attempt to get lost. After a few more interruptions I looked around and finally up. The windshield laid between myself and the perfectly spherical moon. A wall was between us, but I could still see its light and thought, "Oh, that must be it." I was breathing in silence for the rest of the ride.

Reflections

Just Thursday I get an IM from a person who I started building a friendship with, but after learning a little bit about their character quickly stopped seeing them primarily because they would ask me to hang out when I had a club of some sort, but also because I just wasn’t in the mood for the kind of behavior I encountered that evening.

I get an IM and see who it is from the window and don’t think twice before I continued working on my paper. “Hey man, check out my face book wall” he said, with a smile I could see within my imagination sliding across his face. Without responding I go to his page, look at the top two comments, the first one my eyes stopped upon being, “hey man! I heard you got laid this week! Congratulations on getting some.” The next from the supposed partner, “Looks like you know how to show a girl a good time, let’s catch another flight sometime.” It’s all I had to see really and I knew it was coming; this, after all, was the same kid that joyously announced that he was able to lose his virginity after asking a freshman girl if she wanted to have casual sex. Of course, we made him think twice about it after pointing out the STD ratio on campus, which happens to be a pleasant 1/6 females.

I didn’t respond to the badgering “did you see its,” as if it were some accomplishment or trophy to be cherished. A recent article was published within the newspaper about casual sex, citing that a good chunk of the college populous has had about 20-30 partners (for males) and 10-15 (for females). While I try to tell myself I don’t have a problem with people going around and doing the horizontal slide, I sort of do, especially if a person I eventually fell in love with had an excess of 5+ partners before myself. I myself am chaste and do not know why. Sometimes I feel as if a bit of the bump and grind would do me good and I may in fact come off as if I do partake in those sorts of things, but it all ends up being some sort of false bravado put on to conform to what appears to be the norm our generation.

After creative writing club I get into a good conversation with a few people and the club president remarks, “Wow, today’s meeting was going kind of slow, but there was nothing I could really do to prolong it either, no one was really talkative.” I thought it out for a second and said, “well, I’m sure once things get rolling and people get to know each other discussions will begin to come and go more naturally.” Her face lit up and she said, “Oh yeah, definitely, by the end of the semester we’ll be partying it up on Thursday and Friday nights, getting so drunk.” Drinking’s almost an inclusive thing that I can’t be a part of – and not drinking in the sense of actually having a drink, but in the sense of losing yourself. I really don’t care for it but I can’t stop my own judgments about it from deliberating what I do and how I react. I just sort of did my usual fake chuckle in response, but it always strikes me how proud people can be about their sexual or social conduct, even monkeys in suits.

Anyway, new subject. I’ve recently joined a group led by a set of twins called World of Pwnage (www.worldofpwnage.com). Yeah, you guessed it, I’ve gotten into my old gaming habits and in the most competitive sense. The two brothers are high up in the business world, making a good amount of money and want to invest some time and money into developing this community for gamers and life in general. I plan on the competitive team and so far we’ve had a successful season. We’ve won our first two matches 30-0, 29-1 and have our third this Monday. I was able to get us sponsored by Fraggerock which means a free private server. Currently we are working on getting sponsored by a soft-drink company called Bawls which is known for its gaming beverages. Another sponsor we’re meeting with to discuss a contract with is Razer, a computer technology company. If we’re able to get sponsored by both of those companies it means free drinks, free computer parts, and depending on how well we perform, free plane tickets/gas money/hotel rooms for tournaments. I can’t really see us getting our hotel rooms paid for yet, but I could see some free goodies headed our way.

I’m more or less the team strategist and scout. I research information regarding our opponents, their history, and the ability of their players while developing strategies and managing the team when it comes to how we play on a map. Over the last two weeks I’ve probably typed up about 20-30 pages regarding team policy, tactics, and what amounts to a mission statement. What I find amusing is that even though I put in a good amount of time towards coordinating all of this stuff and developing a sense of credibility, many people will still look at it as a waste of time and just a silly little game that children play.

Believe me when I say a lot of drama occurs and it isn’t about just sitting back and playing a game.

You also develop a bond (yes, I know you’re laughing at me as you’re reading this) with the people you play with. You get to know them, their families, what they do for a living and how they spend their free time. My team consists of a 14 year old freshmen in high school who received a D in French, a 2nd generation 21 year old who lives in Syracuse NY but who’s family is originally from Pakistan, a 19 year old husband with two kids who is currently apart of the air-force, stationed in Georgia as an officer and of course, the two successful twins who currently are climbing the ladder at the corporation they work at, one of which is making excess of a hundred thousand a year. We all called bullshit, but when he took a picture of his dissertation and tax return, it was somewhat of a surprise.

People probably roll their eyes when I talk about how much I love the social interaction and planning that goes into a successful match, but I really do. It’s a fun hobby and I get to know some really interesting people. I’ve actually met people who I’ve played with online, which is an incredibly hilarious experience. Supposedly, once we can coordinate ourselves, a lot of us on the penny-arcade debate/politics section of the forums are going to try to get together in New York City, which should be extremely fun. Hopefully this summer. Right now some of the people from my team want me to attend a 500 man LAN in Mass, but I’m not sure if I have the money or time for it at the moment.

But yeah, I’ll update more as things become relevant.

Sorry Folks

Sorry about the lack of updates. I promise I'll get a new one up as soon as I'm in a better mood...in the meantime, here is a pretty picture so that the trip over here was worth it.
